Notre Dame is both a city and the county seat of St. Joseph County, Indiana, United States. The city is located in the northern part of the state, on the St. Joseph River. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 77,118 and the county had a population of 267,819.
Notre Dame is home to the University of Notre Dame, a private Catholic research university. The university was founded in 1842 and has an enrollment of over 12,000 students. Notre Dame is also home to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, a large Catholic church that is a popular tourist destination. The Basilica was built in the late 19th century and is one of the largest churches in the United States.
