The Madison County Sheriff’s Department is a law enforcement agency that serves Madison County, Illinois. The department is responsible for providing law enforcement services to the county’s unincorporated areas and its municipalities, which include Alton, Collinsville, Edwardsville, Granite City, and Wood River.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Department was established in 1812. The department is led by Sheriff John Lakin, who was elected in 2018. The department has a staff of over 200 sworn officers and civilian employees.
