The New Orleans Pelicans are a professional basketball team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Pelicans compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The franchise was established in 2002 as the New Orleans Hornets, and relocated to Oklahoma City after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005. The team returned to New Orleans in 2007 and adopted the Pelicans name in 2013.
The Pelicans have made the playoffs six times in their franchise history, with their most recent appearance coming in 2018. The team’s best playoff performance came in 2008, when they advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals. The Pelicans have a 17-21 overall record in the playoffs.
